Privacy Policy

Garcon ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights with respect to that information.
Information We Collect
We collect information you provide directly and information generated through your use of the app:
- Account information — your email address, used to create and authenticate your account via AWS Cognito.
- Dining preferences — cuisine preferences, dietary restrictions, budget range, and neighborhood preferences you set during onboarding or in settings.
- Dining history — restaurants you log as visited, ratings, notes, and sentiment you record within the app.
- Saved restaurants — restaurants you bookmark or add to your lists.
- Chat messages — the text of your conversations with the Garcon assistant, used to provide recommendations.
- Location — your device location, when you grant permission, to find restaurants near you. We do not store your precise location history.
How We Use Your Information
- To provide restaurant recommendations personalized to your taste.
- To operate and improve the Garcon service.
- To authenticate your account and keep it secure.
- To remember your dining history and preferences across sessions.
We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not use your data for advertising.
Third-Party Services
Garcon uses the following third-party services to operate:
- Amazon Web Services (AWS) — cloud infrastructure, authentication (Cognito), and data storage.
- Anthropic Claude — powers the conversational assistant. Your chat messages are processed by Anthropic's API to generate responses.
- Sentry — crash reporting and error monitoring. Crash reports may include device information and app state at the time of a crash.
- Resy / Tock — reservation availability is checked in real time when you request it. We do not share your identity with these services unless you initiate a booking.
Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. You may delete your account at any time from the app (Settings → Delete Account), which permanently removes all your data from our systems, including dining history, saved restaurants, preferences, and chat sessions.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Delete your account and all associated data.
- Opt out of location access at any time via your device settings.
Children's Privacy
Garcon is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or by email.
